Before diving into the nitty-gritty this needs to be discussed:
You’re overcomplicating too much. Why? Because you’re listening to society, and society pushes status.
“What are you going to do for a living”
“How much money does he make?”
“If you quit what will you do?”
“What’s your degree?”
“I own a business”
“I’m the manager”
“Blah blah blah”
Honestly, it’s a bunch of self-fulfilling BS that does anything BUT lead to a path of purpose and fulfillment.
You waste too much time & mental energy overcomplicating the issue that you fail to make progress on what really matters.
Don’t believe me? I’ll prove it.
The Big Questions Controlling Your Life
- “What am I going to do with my life”
- “But how much money would I make?”
- “How many hours do they work?”
- “Is it worth it?”
If I am dead-wrong feel free to stop reading.
You struggle to discover the answers you beg to see.
I know this because I’ve been there. I caused myself unnecessary stress for years with similar thoughts running through my head.
I was chasing societal status and not my inner purpose.
I overcomplicated it. Just like you are now.
How to Remedy the Confusion
It wasn’t until I began journaling that I discovered where this undesired stress was coming from:
I didn’t know myself because I was emphasizing status, not purpose.
It isn’t until you understand who exactly it is you are becoming that you will understand what is actually important… today.
I had some profound thoughts this morning while taking pen-to-paper.
[Side note: It’s crazy what 30 seconds of writing can do for you.]
I didn’t write the most outrageous things. In fact, they are simple. That’s exactly what makes them so profound.
So, who am I becoming, according to my quick journal entry?
“I am becoming a man who leads with his actions.”
“Who loves & supports through example”
“Who puts experience first & unnecessary stress last”
“Who can teach his kids that dreams are what make life exciting”
“A man who thrives daily, & proves his love to his wife every second”
“I am thrilled to see who I am becoming”
“So I will be that man today”
Short. Simple. Powerful.
Purpose isn’t something you achieve one day when your desired status is accomplished.
It’s something you feel today when you have your priorities in order. But society won’t tell you that; so I will.
Society pushes status to find happiness.
I’m telling you to seek self-discovery to find purpose.
Truth is, you can experience more joy and purpose today if you are willing to zoom out and adjust your perspective on what exactly it is you’re chasing in life.
So what happened when I was journaling today?
I realized that the more I focus on who I am becoming the easier it is to be that person today.
And the more I am that person today, the easier it is to take challenges head-on and come out on top.
It’s a paradigm shift.
You can experience it too.
- Society pushes status.
- You’re overcomplicating purpose by asking yourself the wrong questions.
- You’re chasing societal status and not inner purpose.
- Understanding who exactly it is you are becoming will lead to understanding what is actually important… today.
- The purpose is something you feel today when you have your priorities in order.
- The more you understand who you are becoming the easier it is to face challenges head-on.
With that, I leave you with the inevitable question: Who are you becoming?
Think + Write + Discover + Be
I’m excited for you.
